About BearWell™
BearWell™ is a New Zealand and Australian nutrition company specialising in whey protein and simple, transparent nutrition products.
Our whey protein range is made in New Zealand using whey from grass-fed New Zealand dairy. We make whey protein concentrate (WPC) and whey protein isolate (WPI), available in flavoured and unflavoured options, full-size pouches and convenient single-serve protein sachets.
BearWell operates in both New Zealand and Australia and ships globally from Australia.
We started BearWell with a simple idea: protein powder should be easy to understand.
You should know where your protein comes from, what is in it, why each ingredient is there and what you are actually getting nutritionally.
That is why we keep our formulations straightforward, avoid unnecessary ingredients and publish clear ingredient lists, nutrition information and amino acid profiles.
Simple ingredients, chosen with purpose
We believe every ingredient should have a reason to be there.
Rather than building long ingredient lists, we start with the protein and add only what contributes meaningfully to the finished product.
Our unflavoured whey proteins keep things especially simple, while our flavoured products are carefully formulated to create balanced flavour without relying on artificial flavours or colours.
If an ingredient does not need to be there, we would rather leave it out.
No gums, thickeners or fillers
BearWell whey protein is made without gums, thickeners or fillers.
These ingredients are often used in protein powders to create a thicker texture, change mouthfeel or add bulk. We prefer a lighter whey texture and a shorter, easier-to-understand ingredient list.
For us, the protein should remain the focus.
Naturally sweetened
Our flavoured whey proteins are sweetened with thaumatin, a naturally sweet protein derived from the West African katemfe fruit.
Thaumatin is naturally very sweet, so only a small amount is needed to balance the flavour of the finished product.
Our unflavoured whey proteins contain no added sweetener, giving customers the choice between naturally sweetened flavours and completely unflavoured options.
Made in New Zealand
Our whey protein range is made in New Zealand using whey from grass-fed New Zealand dairy.
New Zealand is central to BearWell's whey range, from the source of the dairy through to manufacture.
We make the origin of our protein clear because we believe customers should know where their protein comes from rather than having to rely on broad descriptions such as “premium whey”.
Transparency over marketing words
Words such as clean, natural and premium are easy to use.
We would rather give you the information behind the product.
That means publishing clear ingredient lists, detailed nutritional information and amino acid profiles so you can see what you are actually consuming.
We do not amino-spike our whey protein. We believe the protein content of a protein powder should come from the protein ingredients listed on the product, rather than from added amino acids used to inflate the reported protein content.
Instead of simply telling you that our protein is “high quality”, we would rather show you what is in it and let the product speak for itself.
You shouldn't have to guess what's in your protein.
Independently tested
Quality does not stop with the ingredient list.
BearWell uses independent laboratory testing to assess product quality and screen for contaminants, including heavy metals.
We believe measurable information is more useful than broad quality claims, and we want customers to have confidence in both what goes into our products and what stays out.

For us, simplicity does not mean doing less carefully. It means being deliberate.
Choosing the protein carefully. Choosing ingredients with purpose. Leaving unnecessary ingredients out. Being clear about where our products come from. And giving customers enough information to understand what they are buying.
